| Comments: | I've been coming here for Wednesday night trivia every week since February. Clarendon Grill uses the "Trivia Kings" format, which is also used by over a dozen other bars in the DC area, including some that are much closer to me, much larger, and more comfortable to sit in. But I still come here, because the hosts add a lot of value. What I like best are the prizes. Every other Trivia Kings location I've tried has only awarded shot glasses or extra beer as prizes. Here, they award tons of different prizes, some of them amusing, some of them quite valuable. And they award them to a larger portion of the field. It can be frustrating when you lose by 4 points to an annoying team, but winning concert or improv tickets can really take the edge off that.
They do play the music rounds (and the sound effects) really loud, and this is a problem if you are sitting close to the speakers. But if you sit far away from the speakers, its a godsend. When I first started playing here, my team often came late and were seated far from the stage, and we had trouble hearing questions. This is no longer a problem. Having the same food and drink specials every week gets old, but if you go to the same place every week for five months, the food and drink selection is always going to get old, no matter how amazing it was in the first place. I was surprised to hear the other trivia review complain that the pop culture questions are geared towards the youngest possible audience - my team is relatively young (most of us are under 25) and we are constantly stumped by pop culture and music questions from the 1980's, which seem to be the bulk of their pop culture questions. |
